Best Virtual Assistant Companies for Startups
A startup's needs change every quarter, so a three-month lock-in or a full-time minimum can cost more than the hourly rate suggests. Most of the companies here sell full-time hires, and several publish their prices up front. We looked for proof of real startup work, then compared exit terms and what happens when a hire doesn't work out.

What a startup VA usually handles
- Founder inbox, calendar and travel
- Investor updates, data room upkeep and meeting notes
- CRM upkeep, lead research and outreach support
- First-line customer support and onboarding new users
- Recruiting coordination: posting roles, screening and scheduling
- Expenses, invoices and vendor follow-ups
What to look for
- Whether you can start below full-time, or how soon you could afford a full-time commitment
- The minimum term and notice period, in writing, before you sign
- A written replacement policy, because a bad first hire hurts more on a small team
- Any fees on top of the rate: setup, deposit, margin or buyout
- Case studies from companies at your stage, not only large clients
FAQ
Should a startup hire a virtual assistant or an in-house admin?
Most early teams don't have a full-time admin workload yet, and a VA is easier to scale up or down. An in-house hire makes more sense once the work needs someone on site or is too sensitive to share outside the company.
How much does a virtual assistant cost for a startup?
Published starting points include about $11 an hour per full-time teammate (NeoWork), $1,899 a month for a virtual assistant (Scale Army), $3,000 a month for full-time talent (Persona) and $3-4K a month (Oceans Talent). Each service's rates are in its entry above.
When should a startup hire its first virtual assistant?
Usually when a founder keeps losing several hours a week to scheduling, inbox, follow-ups or data entry. Write down those repeat tasks first, because they become the job description.
Can a VA work on sensitive startup information?
Yes, with limits. Ask whether the assistant signs an NDA, use a password manager, and give access to investor or financial documents only once the role needs it.
